Renovating A House To Its Past Glory

We used suffolk latches recently to re-equip an old country house that we had lately purchased at a knock down price. Our reason for doing so was that we were very keen on preserving the ancient character and presence of the property. To ensure we completed the task correctly, I researched the era in which it was built. From this research I could use as many iron monger products as achievable to make sure I got the look just right. When I looked around the cottage I saw there were lots of ways to make it seem like a Victorian home. I also spent a lot of time pondering about who had built the property and their life at the time.

Part of the venture also included restoring the barn and storage houses so we used butterfly hinges to make the interior and exterior doors appear like they came straight from the Victorian Time. From a historic ironmongery shop in the town, I managed to find the classical products that also had a beeswax finish. We were very surprised at the neighbourhood interest in our plans including the neighbours who visited offering their suggestions and ideas. I will always remain eager about keeping the heritage and character of my excellent new country cottage.
